August 2014 Newsletter

Greetings everyone,

I hope you all are enjoying your summer activities whether it may be golf, lawn bowling, gardening or just relaxing at the cottage. Before you know it we will begin to think about our winter past time of curling. There are only 41 days until registration night and only 80 days until the first rock glides down the ice in league play!!!!

Registration will take place at the club on Wednesday, September 10 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. We will be having a BBQ as well, so come on down and enjoy a burger, register and catch up with members you may not have seen since curling ended back in March. We are always looking for new members. Talk to neighbours, work colleagues and friends about our great club and the various leagues that are available. Don't forget to tell them about the "New Member" rate of $200.00 which allows them to play as many nights as they wish.

Attached you will find a registration form with the new rates. Feel free to print a copy of the form and drop off your completed form and payment to the club office if you are unable to attend registration night.

Golf and Steak Day:

Mark on your calendars Sunday, September 14th to go and enjoy nine holes of golf at Deer Run Golf Course and then back to the club for a BBQ dinner. Please see the attached form to register for the day. The response has not been the greatest and we would like to know final numbers prior to September 5th or at the very latest Wednesday, September 10th (Registration Night) to assist in making plans for the day.

Lindsay Fair Gates:

Once again the Lindsay Curling Club will be working the gates at the Lindsay Exhibition. The dates we are looking for volunteers are from Wednesday, September 17th to Sunday, September 21st. If you are available to help us out by volunteering some time please contact Cathy Terry (705-878-4034) or Deb Hatch (705-878-5982).

OCA Instructional Clinics:

Our OCA Club Reps, John Baldry and Sue Ledoux, are willing to organize an OCA Instructional Clinic where representatives from the Ontario Curling Association come to our club and provide clinics for the beginner to experienced curler. There is a nominal fee involved and that amount will depend on the number of participants that sign up. If interested please notify the LCC office by email, phone or by dropping in to sign up.

Around the Club:

The last month we have been busy completing repairs to the lounge areas and basement. Odd jobs that must be completed each year to keep the club in fine shape. The old plant room in the basement of the club has been transformed into a storage area for odds and ends that were scattered throughout the basement and now are organized on shelving units. Scott Hoar donated his time and materials to block in the two window wells that access the basement prior to the paving job. Painting to both lounge areas, bathrooms and the basement floor has been completed to freshen up those areas. We need to thank Jim Scott who has spent a lot of his summer in and around the club completing these projects. Dan Reynolds has also been in disconnecting equipment associated with the old plant and also doing odd jobs in his field of expertise. Thank you again Scott, Jim and Dan for all of your time and assistance in making this facility one to be very proud of.

We have been informed that the LED message board will be installed during the fourth week of August. Auto Trim & Signs were in taking final measurements for the refurbishing of our scoreboards. The new chairs for the downstairs lounge have been ordered and we anticipate them being here for the beginning of the curling season. We are well on the way to being prepared for the up and coming season.
