January 2015 Newsletter
Happy New Year everyone!!! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Let's get started on this month's newsletter.
The December steak night was another success with just over 140 people in attendance. Thank you to Jerry Ford who organized the evening right down to the smallest detail and also to the twenty-one volunteers from the Men's Section who helped with the BBQ, serving the meal, cleaning up, running the cash and tending the bar. We appreciate their effort and the giving up of two hours of their personal time. We all are busy and particularly at this time of year so we do thank those who were able to help us out. The next steak night will be the 13th of February. Be sure to mark that day on your calendar.
Golf Coupon Books for Sale:
The Lindsay Curling Club will be selling Golf Coupon books again this year as a fundraiser for our Youth Curling Program. We have a limited number of books to sell so do not delay, purchase them from the LCC office for $30.00/book. For more information or to reserve your book please contact Dave Nigh at the LCC office (705-324-3851) .
Youth Curling Fundraiser:
If you have not already done so, purchase your 2015 calendar from the Club for $20.00. Proceeds from the sale of each calendar ($5.00) will go directly to our youth curling program. Each calendar is printed on high-quality glossy stock, includes colour-coded curling event listings, is bar-coded and it's illustrations display the tradition and spirit of the roaring game that we love so much!!! Inquire at the LCC office and have a look at a sample.
There have been a few members inquiring about the possibility of ordering Lindsay Curling Club name tags in the new year. If interested let me know before Wednesday, January 14th and I will place another order on the 16th. The cost is $10.00 which includes HST.
OCA Instructional Clinic:
On December 13th Lindsay Curling Club with the assistance from the Ontario Curling Association (OCA) held an instructional clinic that included a video analysis and remedial coaching for twelve of our members. Our instructors, Carl Rennick and Colin Sinclair of the OCA, began the day with an explanation of the delivery fundamentals and then proceeded to go out onto the ice to put into practice what was discussed. Each member took turns in the hack with the instructors providing instructions and suggestions for the set up, alignment and delivery of the rock. Each was video taped and instant feedback was offered on how to improve their delivery. From all accounts, everyone found the clinic both informative and practical.
It has been suggested that we hold another clinic early in the new year. We have targeted Saturday, January 24th as the date for the clinic and interested members need to contact the LCC office by Friday, January 9th. The clinic would involve video analysis and remedial coaching for a maximum of 12 people per session at a cost of $40.00/person. If there are more than 12 people interested in this option we would hold two clinics, one in the morning (9:30 am - 12:30) and the second in the afternoon (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm). If interested please contact the LCC office by Friday, January 9th.
Thank you to both John Baldry and Sue Ledoux for organizing this day for our members. Thanks again John and Sue!!!!
