September 2015 Newsletter

Greetings everyone,

It is hard to believe that it is September and that curling is just around the corner. With the coming of September, children will get back into a routine with the return of a new school year The days are becoming shorter and the trees up north are beginning to show a hint of colour. Yes, our favorite winter past time will be upon us before we know it. In fact, we have several Lindsay teams playing in the Port Perry Fall League that starts up in just a few weeks. Good luck to those "eager keeners" who are starting up their curling season early.

Registration: Form is HERE

Registration will take place at the club on Wednesday, September 9th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. We will be having a BBQ as well, so come on down and enjoy a burger, register and catch up with members you may not have seen since curling ended back in March. Attached you will find the new registration form with the 2015/16 rates. Please feel free to print a copy of the form and drop off your completed form and payment to the club office or on registration night. We are always looking for new members so talk to co-workers, neighbours, friends and relatives and bring them down to the club and get them signed up in one or more of the various leagues we offer. Again this year, is an introductory rate of $200.00 for an unlimited membership. A fantastic rate for new members to take advantage off.

Please note that we have a registration cut off of October 1st. This will allow the different league convenors time to get their leagues organized and ready to go by the first week of curling which begins on Monday, October 19th.

Curling Equipment:

Jim Allen, a member of our club, will be offering Goldline Equipment to the members. He will have some equipment available at the club during registration for members to purchase. He will provide this service to our members throughout the year. Jim will be more than happy to take orders if he does not have the equipment you want from Goldline here that night. There will be brochures available for you to look through as well. For more information contact Jim Allen at 705-878-5994.

Bonspiels:

Wednesday, October 21st will be our first ladies bonspiel of the year. We would like to thank Jeanette Finney and Ethel Windrem of Ethel's Hairstyling for sponsoring this event again for another year. There will be a sign up sheet at Registration night or you could contact Bev McMillan (705-324-4710) or Pat Boyd (705-324-9522) for more information.

Lindsay Fair Gates:

Cathy Terry would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to help at the Fair gates. She is looking for more helpers so if you are available for a few hours during fair week (Sept. 23rd - 27th) please call Cathy Terry (705-878-4034). She would also like to remind all of the volunteers that if, for any reason, you are unable to work your shift please find a replacement and let her know who will be taking your place as she has a very limited spare list

Special Olympics:

We would like to thank Sue Banks for her dedication and assistance over the past several years as she is stepping down from her duties associated with the Special Olympics curling. Finni Verbik will be resuming her position as head coach and contact person for this league. She asked me to put out an appeal for volunteers to help her with the team. We would be looking for volunteers for every Monday starting the 26th of October from 3:30 pm till 5:15 pm for the duration of the curling season. Police checks are required and Finni mentioned that the Special Olympics would assume the cost for anyone who was interested. We are looking for helpers who exhibit enthusiasm, patience, and a whole lot of caring. Please note that curling ability is not a major factor. If you are interested please contact Finni Verbik by phone (705-324-9859) or by email ftverbik@i-zoom.net .

Thank you again to Sue Banks for all of her help as she will be missed by everyone involved with the Special Olympics program and, especially, the athletes themselves.
