December 2015 Newsletter
Ho! Ho! Ho! Only 24 more days to Christmas!!! We must take a moment to thank Audrey Johnston, Linda Matson, Bernice Zigomanis and Bonnie Steele for decorating the club. It looks fantastic!!! How could one not get into the Christmas spirit??? Especially when the club is so festive looking. Thank you again ladies !!!!
It is hard to believe that the season is already 1/3 over. Curling will continue right up to Tuesday, December 22nd. There will be a short break over the Christmas Holidays as Mark has planned to do a flood in preparation for the new year. Curling will commence on the 3rd of January with Youth Curling at 1:00 pm and then regular league play beginning on Monday, January 4th with the Day Ladies at 1:30 pm, Special Olympics at 3:30 pm followed by Men's Curling at 6:45 pm and 9:00 pm.
Once again the Tuesday Evening Women's section is coordinating the ongoing Book Sale at the Curling Club. It is located upstairs in the lounge by Ice 1. Buy a book for a buck, read it and bring it back for someone else to enjoy. If you have books to donate please bring them in.
Thanks for your participation......All proceeds go to our Curling Club.
The 2015 - 2016 Roster is available at the club. There are 350 copies so there should be plenty enough for each household to have one. They are sitting on the counter just inside the main lounge in a cardboard box. Also, if you had indicated that you would like a paid receipt for your curling dues, they too, are on the same counter. If yours is not there and you had requested a copy please let me know and I'll run you one off immediately.
Lindsay Curling Club has partnered with Boston Pizza to help in our fundraising efforts. The past few years we have tried selling "Curling Calendars" and "Golf Coupon Books" which did contribute to raising money to put towards equipment for our Youth Program. We thought we would pursue a completely different opportunity this year.
We are pleased to team up with "Boston Pizza Lindsay" by participating in their Team Rewards Program. It represents a great opportunity for our organization to raise money for our Curling Club.
Since many of our members, family, and friends frequent Boston Pizza in Lindsay anyway, we can easily take advantage of this opportunity to help ourselves.
When you visit the restaurant, simply write Lindsay Curling Club on the back of your guest receipt and place it into the Team Rewards Program box at the front door. Be sure to encourage your family and friends to do the same.
Boston Pizza will give us a 10% credit of the before tax value of all appropriately marked guest receipts, inclusive of food and alcohol. We will accumulate a credit over the course of the year that we will receive in cash to put toward local Club initiatives which in this case would be our Youth Program.
Boston Pizza is a great supporter of community causes and wants to support the Lindsay Curling Club. They have expressed interest in additional support for other fundraising efforts as well. This initiative will not be successful without your participation. Please help and encourage others to participate as well.
DeNure Bonspiel: The DeNure Bonspiel was held on Wednesday, November 18th. If you recall last year, we had a terrible snow storm the night before the bonspiel and we were very lucky to even have the bonspiel take place. This was not the case this year as it was a beautiful day and everyone arrived without a hitch. There were 16 teams taking part in the bonspiel and all appeared to have a great time.
I would like to thank Darlene McIntyre, Lynn Kimmett and Shirley Toombs as convenors of the bonspiel, they worked extremely hard to ensure everyone had a great experience. Darlene wanted me to also thank everyone who donated morning treats and the donations for the Draw Table. The committee would also like to thank all those who volunteered their time to help out in the kitchen and various tasks throughout the day.
The Social committee led by Sharron Robertson provided delicious post game snacks and believe me they were very tasty. We appreciate the generosity of DeNure Tours in sponsoring this Bonspiel again and enjoyed having Dorothy DeNure join us, to present the awards. Congratulations to the winning team from Lindsay skipped by Cheryl Saunders, Pat Boyd, Bev McMillan and Marion Perras. Way to go ladies!! Well Done!!!
Patron President Bonspiel: Twenty teams played in the evenings of Monday, November 23rd, Wednesday, the 25th and Thursday the 26th of November in the Patron President Bonspiel. This bonspiel was sponsored by our President, David Wells as well as this years' Patron, Lorne Carr and money collected from our weekly Men's 50/50 Draw. The teams are made up of men and women from all of the various sections of our club and they competed together over the three evenings.
Our overall three game high winner was the team skipped by Angie Melaney, Dave Phendler, Ralph Mutton and Faye Flood. This bonspiel is unique as LCC members sign up as individuals and teams are made up by the convenors. This makes the spiel different from others as often people from various leagues are meeting and playing together for the very first time. We hope that everyone had a great time and we look forward to running it again next year.
On November 21st and 22nd Lindsay Curling Club hosted the Tim Hortons Master Men's Zone competition and the Pepsi Junior Women Zones. In the Junior Women competition, a Lindsay team skipped by Audrey Wallbank, Christine Kim (Vice), Taylor Barton (Second) and Alanna Casper (Lead) won the "B" Side of the event and will be travelling to Mississauga Golf and Country Club to compete in the Regionals on November 28 and 29th. At the time of this newsletter I have not heard how the girls did. However, we wish them all the best of luck and know they will represent us well. Good luck ladies, play well.
In the Masters competition there were six teams competing for two spots at the Regions being held in Lakefield on December 5th ant 6th. Congratulations to Dave Nigh, Jim Scott, Lyle Cully and Bud Harris who won the "A" side and also Larry Sims, Malcolm Florence, Bill Rourke (who spared for Dave Shaw) and John Baldry who won the "B" Side of the Draw. I am sure that they would welcome any support from our club, so if you are free this weekend drop by the Lakefield Curling Club to cheer on our teams. Good Luck and Good Curling!!!
Also, on the same weekend in November we had two men's teams travel up to Bancroft Curling Club to participate in the Fairfield Marriott Challenge. Henry Jetten, Dan Reynolds, Richard Koolhaas and Dave Francis and, as well, Tim Raven, Tyler Jones, Isaac Breadner and Chris Miles took part in this event. There was a very competitive field and all of the teams had a tough road ahead of them. The eventual winning teams were from Lakefield and Peterborough.
We will have several Lindsay teams participating in various OCA Events over the next few months. I will keep you posted to the events and the Lindsay teams that have entered them. All of our teams who have entered OCA Events appreciate the ever present support they receive from our members. Good luck one and all!!
