September 2017 Newsletter

Greetings all,

It is hard to believe that it is September and that curling is just around the corner. With the coming of September the days are becoming shorter and the trees are beginning to show a hint of colour. Yes, our favorite winter past time will be upon us before we know it. In fact, there are only 40 days before Practice Week/Open House and 56 days until the start of league play. Yikes, where has the summer gone.

The accessibility project will be an annoyance but once it is completed the club will become accessible and eventually with the completion of the third phase our club will be fully accessible to both the main and upper lounge area as well as the playing surface. We look forward to that time it has been a very long process but totally worth it in the end.

Lindsay Fair Gates:

Cathy Terry would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to help at the Fair gates. She is looking for more helpers so if you are available for a few hours during fair week (Sept. 20th - 24th) please call Cathy Terry (705-878-4034). The following is a note from Cathy.

The practice and information night for the fair gates is Mon. 19th at 7:30 at the fair office. We will be reviewing the passes, use of cash register and new this year, we will have a scanner for use on the pre-sold tickets, and how to detect if they have be used previously. Also, they will go over the use of the debit, credit machines, which we used last year.

There is still lots of spots to fill in the schedule, so please be ready to lend a hand for the very worthwhile fundraiser. We will be calling all, until all spots are filled. If you have committed yourself to a time frame, and find you have to cancel, PLEASE, FIND YOUR OWN REPLACEMENT. Once the fair has began, I am not available to find replacements. I do not book extras and your position is required.

We must thank Cathy and her phoning committee as this fundraiser is a major undertaking and takes a lot of work to organize the five days of the Fair.

Registration:

Registration will take place at the club on Wednesday, September 13 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. We will be having a BBQ as well, so come on down and enjoy a burger, register and catch up with members you may not have seen over the summer months. If you are unable to come to registration you could print the 2017/18 registration form. Fill out the appropriate contact information and indicate what league(s) you wish to play in. Again this year, is an introductory rate of $200.00 for an unlimited membership. A fantastic rate for new members to take advantage off. On the second page indicate the rate that pertains to you and also if you have or would like to have a locker then write a cheque payable to the Lindsay Curling Club and drop it off at the club.

Please note that we have a registration cut off of October 1st. This will allow the league convenors time to get their leagues organized and ready to go by the first week of curling which begins on Monday, October 16th.

Jim Allen, a member of our club, will again be offering Goldline Equipment to our members. He will be at the club during registration and will have some equipment available for members to purchase. Jim will provide this service to our members throughout the year and he will be more than happy to take orders if he does not have the equipment you want from Goldline here that night. There will be brochures available for you to look through or you can go online at www.goldlinecurling.com to have a look as well. For more information contact Jim Allen at 705-878-5994.

On Wednesday, October 25th we will be our first ladies bonspiel of the year. We would like to thank Jeanette Finney and Ethel Windrem of Ethel & Jeanette's Hairstyling for sponsoring this event. There will be a sign up sheet at Registration night. For more information contact Bev McMillan (705-324-4710) or Pat Boyd (705-324-9522) who will also be present on registration night.

Also at registration, there is an information brochure available regarding The Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings being held at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. From December 7 - 11, Canada's elite curling teams will battle for a spot to represent Canada at the Olympics in South Korea. Pick up a brochure and learn how you and others can attend this exciting curling event.

Golf and Steak Day:

The signups for golf are slowly coming in, however, I would like to let Brad Parsons of Deer Run know our final number by Tuesday, September 5th or at the very latest Friday, September 8th. If you intend on participating in this event please print out the registration form (click here for the form) and drop it and your payment off at the club this week. You could also phone the club and let me know that you are planning to come to the golf day and I will fill out a form for you and collect payment on Sunday, October 1st at the course. If you would like to reserve a cart please call Brad and he will book one for you.
