August 2019 Newsletter

Hello everyone,

It's hard to believe that we are beginning the month of August. Where has the summer gone? I hope you all are enjoying your summer activities…, lawn bowling, gardening or just chilling out at the cottage. Before you know it, we will begin to think about our winter past time of curling. There are only 42 days until registration night.

Around the Club:

Construction continues on Peel Street and Coco Paving have put curbs and gutters in and are in the process of preparing for sidewalks. Most of the infrastructure construction is now been moved over to Russell Street. Every day streets are being worked on and detours seem to occur almost weekly if not daily. It has been quite a process, however, things are slowly getting completed.

As far as the Men’s Locker room is concerned we are waiting on the company who did the initial cleanup to get back to prepare the floor for the new carpet, then lay the carpet down and put the lockers back into place. In the meantime, we organized a small work committee to come in and paint the downstairs walls. Having the lockers moved out from the walls allowed us to paint in behind them and now the locker area has a new coat of paint. I would like to thank Bud Harris, Frank Smith, Bev Flemming and John McCrae for helping us out with the painting. Once everything is put back into place the downstairs will have a fresh, clean look. Thanks guys for your help!!

We are still looking to have the final phase of the accessibility project completed before the end of September. All that remains is granting access to the playing surface and adding a power operated door where we normally exit from the ice surface. Hopefully that will get started shortly or we may have to delay the process for another year.

Registration will take place at the club on Wednesday, September 11th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm . Watch for ads in the newspaper in the coming weeks reminding returning members of registration and hopefully attracting new members. As usual, we will be having a BBQ at registration, so come on down and enjoy a burger, visit with folks you may have not seen since the end of the curling season and register!! We are always looking for new members. Talk to neighbours, work colleagues and friends about our great club and the various leagues that are available. Don't forget to tell them about the "New Member" rate of $200.00 which allows a new member to play in as many leagues as they wish for the entire year!!! What a great deal!!!

You will be pleased to know that there were no increases to any of our dues for the coming curling season. Also, please note that we have a registration cut off of October 1st. This will allow the convenors time to get their leagues organized and ready to go by the first week of curling which begins on Monday, October 21st.

If you are unable to attend registration night feel free to print a copy of the registration form (Click the link for the form) and drop off your completed form and payment to the club office.

Lindsay Fair Gates:

Once again the Lindsay Curling Club will be working the gates at the Lindsay Exhibition. The dates we are looking for volunteers are from Wednesday, September 18th to Sunday, September 22nd. If you are available to help us out by volunteering some time please contact Cathy Terry (705-878-4034).

Euchre Party:

Our next euchre get together is Saturday, August 10th. Presently, we have 46 people signed up for the evening. Registration will be at 6:30 pm and the games will begin at 7:00 pm. Admission is $10.00 per person which will include six games of euchre, pizza, cash prizes for the top 4 players and the player with the most lone hands and there will also be a “Share the Wealth Draw”. See you there!

Golf and Steak Day:

We are planning to hold another Golf and Steak Day this fall. We have booked Sunday, September 29th as the day to hold the function. We would go out to Deer Run Golf Course play 12 holes of golf and then come back to the club for a steak BBQ dinner. In the past, we used a shot gun start at 2:00 pm which meant that everyone would tee off at the same time, play their 12 holes and end up back at the club at 5:30 or so to have our meal.

Please print and fill out the form for the Golf and Steak Day (Click the link for the form) and return it and your cheque payable to the Lindsay Curling Club on or before September 10th, 2019. Hope to see you there!!

That's all for now, enjoy the rest of the summer!!!!!
